SIGHT FOR CHILDREN

Unite For Sight works to build healthier communities through eye disease prevention, eye health promotion, and health education around the world.  A wealth of information and resources for children, teenagers and their concerned parents is available.

Prevent Blindness America is on of the US’s leading volunteer eye health and safety organisations whose sole mission is preventing blindness and preserving sight.  A wide range of child, parent and medical professional information and activity material is available.

First Book works to give children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new books. They provide an ongoing supply of new books leveraging on the work of ‘local heroes’ (this model has been successfully spread through the US) who reach out children participating in community-based mentoring, tutoring, and family literacy programmes.

Room to Read seeks to intervene early in the lives of children and help provide them with an education and the lifelong gift of literacy.  Whether through challenge grants (catalysts to community action) requiring villages to help with building a new school or by supporting the establishment of libraries, computer labs and language labs in conjunction with the said schools.
